Seq. 0250 - "Smurf Village" (Opening Title Sequence)

COMEDY

Director Kelly Asbury tasked me with exploring a more adult take on Smurf Village; closer to creator Peyo's original rambunctious Belgium comics of the 1960's than the Saturday morning TV version we've grown accustomed to.  His exact mandate was to (quote): "Give it more Family Guy humor."

Seq. 1320 - "Howlibird Nest"

DRAMA, COMEDY

The bare bones of the concept was this: Hefty Smurf gets snatched up by the predatory Howlibird, whisked away to its ominous nest as dinner.  By the end of the sequence, Hefty needs to have gained the trust and loyalty of the Howlibird.  The rest of the gory details were left up to me.

Seq. 1730 - "Missing Smurfs"

DRAMA, COMEDY

I'm always looking for opportunities to weave props into my story sketches to help punctuate the underlying emotion of the script pages.  In this sequence where Papa checks in on Smurfette after grounding her, I had him bring her a smurfberry pie as a peace offering, then constructed the scenes around it.

Seq. 2110 - "Dragonfly Ditch"

ACTION, COMEDY

Gargamel and Azrael must navigate a treacherous marsh in search of Papa Smurf’s hidden magical gemstones, the source of his Smurfy powers.  I cranked up the violence quotient to eleven, almost having as much fun torturing Gargamel as Azrael does.
