Ah, The Emoji Movie... a lot has been said about this film. With our two main characters Gene and Hi-5 being literally just a face and a hand (essentially a circle and a square), storyboarding sequences like Losers Lounge, the secluded hangout spot for rarely if ever used emojis, took on an abstract quality.

Seq. 1080B - "The Wallpaper"
COMEDY
Gene and Hi-5 sneak out of the dystopian city of Textopolis to venture where no emoji has ever returned from: the Cloud. But first they must navigate the phone’s forbidden Wallpaper, the space between the apps. This sequence was the perfect spot for a rubber monster finger puppet gag I had thought up.

Writing this theatrical trailer was my favorite assignment on Emoji, and it wasn't even part of the actual film! I built the spot around Hi-5 inadvertently set aflame by Devil Emoji grilling a hotdog. This piece was never produced, probably due to the taboo of shouting "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater. Whoops...
